What can I expect from my first appointment?
- Your details and history are taken down, and we discuess your presenting symptoms and goals you wish to set for your treatment plan to accomplish.
- Various specific assessment are then done to assess your range-of-motion, structure, etc. Assessments not only form the base of your treatments, but are the way to watch your progress.
- A range of techniques are then used to achieve the goals set out in your treatment plan.
Will I need to remove any clothing?
- I will often suggest you bring some loose fitting shorts and a t-shirt, as treatments often include a bit of moving around and this way you’re able to leave your clothing on for certain parts of the treatment. It is usually necessary however, to remove a top or shorts as Remedial Massage requires the assessment of your body’s structure and working with the body’s soft tissues to achieve fantastic results.
What sort of techniques do you use?
- The main techniques used are Massage techniques; acting on the body’s soft tissues to create change in tight muscles, restricted joints, skeletal imbalances, soft tissue injuries, aches and pains, etc.
- PNF Stretching is used to restore normal length to muscles. Much like the stretching you would do before a game of Football, these are often done with a partner and specific in their goal to achieve muscular balance.
- Mobilising is when movement is introduced to certain joints in certain ways, and used in conjunctions with other techniques, helps increase range-of-motions, increase blood flow, relieve pain, etc.
- Cupping comes from Traditional Chinese Medicine practices, and is fantastic for clearing blockages in soft tissues, increasing blood flow and ultimately, relieving aches, pains and tensions.
Will I feel any discomfort?
- Every technique used is always done so within your range of comfort. Everyone is different, and It is very important that my client and I work as a team to achieve the best results.
How will I feel afterwards?
- It is common to feel a bit tender after treatment in the areas worked on during your session. This may only last for a few hours, but may last for a day or maybe two. This is of course completely normal though.
